ABOUT US

We are Nina and Francisco – an architect and an industrial designer, originally from Germany and Argentina. Together with our little son Tomás, we’ve found a new home in Lannavaara, far up north in Swedish Lapland.

Our journey began with a longing: for space, for stillness, for a life more in tune with nature. Here, where the sky stretches wide and silence holds power, we found a place that moved us deeply – and with ÁILU, we’ve created something we now wish to share.

To us, hospitality means welcoming people the way we would love to be welcomed ourselves – with honesty, warmth, and genuine care. We believe in the power of small things: in thoughtful design, carefully chosen materials, and details that may go unnoticed at first, but are always felt.

The name ÁILU is a traditional Sámi boy’s name. In our imagination, it was little Áilu who once arrived here with his family and reindeer, stood on this hill, looked out across the land, and felt: this is a good place to stay. To pause. And to create something new – something that enriches and fulfills.

After all, this is Sámi land – a place shaped by an ancient and living culture, rich in knowledge, tradition, and deep respect for nature. We wish to honor this culture and this land, and with ÁILU, we hope to offer a small and sincere bridge: a place where others can come to experience and appreciate this world with open hearts.

ÁILU is more than just a place to stay – it’s a temporary home for those seeking something real. Whether you’re visiting Swedish Lapland for quiet reflection, Arctic nature, or cultural connection, we welcome you to our world.

Welcome to ÁILU.
